POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for owning assigned accounting processes and supporting the monthly close for Vero Fiber and its construction-related operations. This role is designed for an accountant who can take responsibility for recurring areas of the general ledger, maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations, and follow items through resolution with limited day-to-day direction. The position has a strong emphasis on construction and project accounting, including job and project cost tracking, construction-in-progress, fixed assets, project closeouts, and project-level revenue and cost activity. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager, Project Managers, operations, and the broader Vero Finance team to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, well-supported, and audit-ready.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own assigned areas of the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, account analysis, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, research reconciling items, and drive items to timely resolution.
  • Review general ledger activity for appropriate coding, classification, entity, market, project, and other relevant accounting dimensions.
  • Support monthly financial statement review and investigate unusual trends, variances, or activity.
  • Assist with intercompany accounting and reconciliations across Vero entities.
Construction & Project Accounting
  • Support and own recurring construction accounting activities, including job and project cost tracking, project coding, construction-in-progress (CIP), work-in-process, and project closeout activity.
  • Review construction and capital expenditures for appropriate accounting treatment, project assignment, and capitalization.
  • Support the movement of completed construction projects from CIP into fixed assets and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist with project-level revenue and cost accounting, including percentage-of-completion or other revenue recognition activities where applicable.
  • Partner with Project Managers and operational teams to understand project activity, investigate cost variances, resolve coding issues, and improve project reporting.
  • Assist with project setup, budgets, attributes, and ongoing project data maintenance within NetSuite and other operational systems.
  • Support accounting for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other construction-related costs as applicable.
Reporting, Controls & Audit
  • Maintain clear, organized, and audit-ready support for journal entries, reconciliations, project accounting, and other assigned areas.
  • Assist with recurring and ad hoc financial and operational reporting for Accounting, Finance, and business stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and help ensure documentation and accounting conclusions are well-supported.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, standardize processes, improve reporting, and reduce manual work.
Cross-Functional & Growth Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the broader Vero Finance organization and operational teams in a growing, multi-entity environment.
  • Support integration of acquired businesses, new markets, systems, and accounting processes as needed.
  • Develop an understanding of Vero's fiber construction and telecommunications operations and how operational activity flows through the financial statements.
  • Take ownership of additional accounting areas and projects as the business and role continue to grow.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1 - 3 years of accounting experience with exposure to month-end close, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and core accounting concepts, including accrual accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with detailed financial and operational data.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities, meet deadlines, research issues, and follow items through resolution.
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to independently manage recurring accounting responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the broader business and financial impact.
  • Organized and deadline-driven, particularly during the monthly close.
  • Clear communicator who can work effectively with accounting, construction, and operational stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Construction accounting or project accounting experience, including exposure to job costing, construction-in-progress, work-in-process, fixed assets, project closeouts, or percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Experience in telecommunications, fiber infrastructure, broadband, utilities, engineering, or another construction or project-driven industry.
  • Experience working with Project Managers, construction teams, or other operational stakeholders.
  • NetSuite experience, particularly with projects, journal entries, saved searches, or fixed assets.
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment with intercompany activity.
JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
  • This role requires the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time, using a computer and other office equipment.
  • This role requires the ability to perform fine motor tasks, such as typing or using a mouse, for extended period of time
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $70,000– $80,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity.  For Colorado-based applicants, the pay range and benefits listed above apply in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. 
  • This position may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, based on individual performance and company profitability.
