OSP Project Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for overall project management (schedule and budget) for multiple fiber network construction projects. Candidates should have hands-on experience building out fiber networks at scale, ideally including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. Includes direct oversight of OSP engineering/construction firms, project reporting (internal and external) and rapid resolution of project roadblocks. Reports to Regional Director of OSP Operations.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identification of candidate OSP engineering/construction firms, managing bid/vendor selection process and contract negotiation
- Prepare high-level engineering designs and build cost estimates for new projects
- Perform tactical project management, including managing project schedules, running regular project calls with contractors, and performing support project functions (such as securing bonds, internal signatures for permits, etc.)
- Develop and maintain accurate project budget forecasts
- Develop materials forecast (fiber, conduit, etc.) and manage materials inventory
- Performing site walks with customers and vendors
- Working with local/state/federal permitting agencies to secure timely permit approvals
- Documenting splicing requirements and maintaining fiber engineering documentation
- Specifying and procuring optics components for contractor installation
- Maintaining up-to-date network maps in Vero’s proprietary geospatial project management platform, including in-flight design changes and final as-built routes
- Providing accurate network maps to state 811 agencies and Vero Networks NOC
- Managing network maintenance and relocation projects (including emergency maintenance)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 4+ years’ experience in fiber network engineering or OSP project management
- Thorough understanding of utility engineering, permitting and construction process
- Ability to develop detailed project schedules and manage work activities to ensure timely completion
- Strong planning skills, including ability to anticipate and mitigate project risk
- Construction cost estimating and budget management experience
- Thorough understanding of fiber network cost structure and ability to identify and achieve costs savings during project execution
- Understanding of fiber engineering and documentation standards and principles
- BS degree or Project Management certificate preferred

- Strong background in Microsoft Office365 (especially Excel), Google Maps, Google Earth
- GIS Mapping and data manipulation experience preferred (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.)
